TOWSON, Md. — Two days after her record-breaking performance at the Mason-Dixon Invitational, Goucher's Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional) today was recognized as the Women's Track & Field Female Athlete of the Week for track events in the Landmark Conference.
The honor covers the seven-day period beginning April 11.
Smith was the first runner to cross the finish line in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and her winning times in both events is the all-time fastest in the history of Goucher's women's outdoor track and field program. She broke the 100-meter dash record two times: first when she was clocked at :12.44 in the preliminaries and then when she posted a time of 12:20 in the finals.
Only 16 Division III female runners have recorded faster times in the 100-meter dash than Smith did on Saturday. She missed tying the Landmark Conference 100-meter dash record of :12.19 by just 1-hundredth of a second.
Smith also completed the 200-meter dash at the Mason-Dixon Invitational in 25.92 seconds, eclipsing the school record of :26.38 that was established by Dana Macaluso back in 2011.
The senior sprinter also anchored Goucher's entry that placed first and set a new school record in the 4 x 100-meter relay (:49.95).
