Women's T&F Posts Highest Finish at Landmark Championships in Team History
Sophomore Lexi Stewart (Laurel, Md.) was named the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year following two silvers and a gold at the 2017 championships.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Lexi Stewart (Laurel, Md.) was named the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year following two silvers and a gold at the 2017 championships.
Stewart, who won the 200m dash (26.15) and placed second in the 100m dash (12.79) on Sunday, earned Goucher's first Landmark Conference major award since 2012 when Destiny Phillips was named the Rookie of the Year. Stewart completed the weekend with one All-Landmark First Team Honor and two All-Landmark Second Team honors.
She was joined by the Goucher College coaching staff, headed by John Caslin, as the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Gophers finished in fourth place following the two-day event held at Moravian College, scoring 79 points (highest score since 2012 -98 points). Moravian took home first-place honors with a score of 245 points.
How It Happened:
- In addition to setting a personal best in the 200m dash, Stewart also chalked up the sixth-fastest time in the event in Goucher history.
- Freshman Shalom Omo-Osagie (Baltimore, Md.) earned All-Landmark Conference Second Team honors in the high jump with a second place finish. She set a personal best in the event with a jump of 1.52m. The mark is also a school record for the high jump.
- Fellow first-year, Natalie Kent (Media, Pa.) took home third place in the shot put with a chuck of 10.96m.
- Senior Laura Williams (Verona, N.J.) placed fifth in both the 100mH (17.08) and high jump with a mark of 1.42m – tying her personal record and putting her sixth all-time in Goucher history.
- First-year Taylor Gunter (Laurel, Md.) also scored in the shot put with a sixth-place finish after throwing an outdoor personal best of 10.72m.
- Freshman Anna Gallina (Whitehall, Pa.) scored three points for the Gophers with a 5th place finish in the 200m dash (27.14).
- The relay team of Williams, Gallina, Omo-Osagie and Stewart also finished 3r in the 4x100 relay with a time of 51.27.
