Goucher Women's Track & Field Named To The USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher College women's track and field team has been named to the 2018-19 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team announced on Tuesday.
"One of our team goals every year is to be the best academic team out there," said Goucher track and field head coach John Caslin. "It is a tribute to the example our team leadership sets and is great to see our very young team accomplish this goal! The Goucher athlete legacy is to be a true student-athlete and these young women carry on this tradition set long before them. I am Goucher proud of their success!"
The Gophers were one of 184 women's teams to be named an all-academic team. The squad posted a 3.14 grade-point average. To be eligible a team must have at least a 3.10 grade-point average. It marked the 13th-straight season the Goucher women's team has earned the honor by the USTFCCCA.
The team was highlighted this year on the track by 2019 Goucher College graduate Taylor Gunter (Laurel, Md./Sandy Spring Friends School), who finished first in the shot put and second in the weight throw at the Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships and then won the discus and finished second in the shot put during the outdoor conference championships to wrap up her career. Gabby Blazek (New Orleans, La./Louise S. McGehee) finished second in the pole vault during the indoor championships while Anna Gallina (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) was second in the 60m dash at the indoor championships and third in the 100m dash in the championships in May.
