TOWSON, Md. - Goucher came away from a tri-match in the Sports & Recreation with its third win of the young season, but not before it took on its fourth loss.
The day started with the Gophers (3-4) bowing to Villa Julie in three games. Game scores were 30-22, 30-28, 30-24.
The Mustangs (5-1) scored seven points with Alana Eller serving to jump out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first game, but Goucher opened up a 15-9 advantage in the second game. Villa Julie eventually caught Goucher at 20-20 and, again with Eller serving, the Mustangs tallied the final two points to pull out the 30-28 win.
Kasey Quinn (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) supplied the Gophers with a team-leading 15 kills in the three-game match.
Eight different Goucher players registered kills in the final match of the day, a 3-0 victory for head coach Michael Bossom's team over Rutgers-Camden. Game scores were 30-14, 30-21, 30-13.
Serving was one area where the Gophers were superior to the Scarlet Raptors (0-7) as the 27 aces they served were only two shy of the school record for a match. Catie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) was credited with nine service aces and a team-high 16 assists, and Quinn collected seven kills, seven digs and six aces.
