HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Goucher played its first two Landmark Conference matches today, including one against the other school which left the Capital Athletic Conference. Unfortunately, the Gophers took a pair of hits as both Catholic and Scranton required only three games to earn victories over head coach Michael Bossom's squad.
The two transplants from the CAC squared off first, with the Cardinals (8-7, 1-0 Landmark) coming out on top 30-9, 30-15, 30-12. The Gophers struggled right from the beginning, hitting -.152 in the first game. For the match, Goucher's attack percentage was -.099.
Megan Smith (Honolulu, HI/Long Beach Polytechnic) was credited with 15 digs in the Catholic match.
The Gophers were much more competitive against Scranton, but still slipped to .500 on the season as the Royals prevailed 30-16, 30-20, 30-27.
Kasey Quinn (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) led the Gophers (6-6, 0-2 Landmark) in kills with nine. Catie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) was credited with 16 assists, and Smith with 20 digs.
The Gophers hadn't faced the Royals (13-3, 2-0 Landmark) since 2004.
