ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – Goucher picked up its first win of the season today, needing just three sets to finish off Rowan. In a second match, the Gophers (1-5) suffered a 3-0 loss to St. Mary's (Md.).
Game scores against the Profs were 25-18, 25-22, 25-18. Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic) was credited with 16 kills – two more than Rowan's team total – and a .275 attack percentage.
Kasey Quinn (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Rebecca Schaefer (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) both supplied the Gophers with 14 digs and Claire Sauvage-Mar (New Delhi, India/American Embassy School) finished with 29 assists.
The Seahawks encountered little trouble winning the first set of the second match, but then struggled to come out on top of Goucher, winning 25-14, 25-22, 25-22. Sauvage-Mar picked up an assist on 24 of the Gophers' points.
