FROSTBURG, Md. – Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic) was back in Goucher's line-up for the first time in nearly three weeks tonight, but the junior outside hitter's return wasn't enough for the Gophers to knock off Frostburg St. Instead, the Bobcats (19-2) turned back head coach Michael Bossom's squad, 3-0.
Set scores were 25-22, 25-10, 25-15.
Smith, who missed 10 matches because of an ankle injury, led the Gophers (10-11) in kills (8) and was one of four players on the team to record more than 10 digs: Kasey Quinn (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) finished with 17 digs, Claire Sauvage-Mar (New Dehli, India/American Embassy School) with 15 digs, and Smith and Catie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca) wih 11 apiece.
Both teams had modest winning streaks going headed into tonight's match. The Gophers had reeled off four consecutive victories since their last setback on Sept. 20, while the Bobcats extended their current streak to eight matches.
