KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Even though Goucher sustained a 3-0 loss to Scranton today, the Gophers still earned a spot in the Landmark Conference postseason championship tournament when the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was beaten by Moravian.
The Gophers were guilty of 22 hitting errors and 10 reception miscues in their 25-21, 25-14, 25-18 lost to Scranton. Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic) led Goucher in kills (12) and digs (21).
The victorious Royals (18-6, 5-1 Landmark) finished with a .378 attack percentage.
Once Merchant Marine lost to Moravian, the Gophers (10-14, 1-5 Landmark) were assured a playoff berth. They will go into the tournament at the No. 6 seed, which means they'll take on third-seeded Susquehanna in the opening round on November 5.
