MADISON, N.J. –The Landmark Conference today named Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic), a junior outside hitter on Goucher's volleyball team, as the Player of the Week for her sport for the seven-day period that started September 29.
After missing 10 matches while recovering from an ankle injury, Smith was back in the Gophers' starting line-up against Frostburg State on October 1, supplying her team with eight kills and 11 digs.
Three days later, Smith established new school and conference records with her 35-kill performance in a five-set match against Moravian. She was also credited with 19 digs, two assists, one service ace and one block, and her attack percentage against the Greyhounds was .315.
The single-match record for kills at Goucher became Smith's last season when she knocked down 29 kills against Messiah. Before Saturday, the most kills in a match in the short history of the Landmark Conference was 31, accomplished in 2007 by Catholic's Carey Anne Nassib against Gallaudet and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy's Jesselyn LaValley against Baruch.
During the three conference matches the Gophers played this past weekend, Smith averaged 4.86 kills and 4.93 digs per set.
