Landmark Announces 2008 Fall All-Academic Team

Smith Represents Goucher's Volleyball Program

MADISON, N.J. - The Landmark Conference today announced the names of the 32 student-athletes who make up the 2008 Fall Landmark All-Academic Team, which recognizes two male and two female athletes who have excelled athletically and academically from each of the eight Landmark institutions.

Goucher's four representatives on the second annual Fall Landmark All-Academic Team are Julien Greco (Shutesbury, Mass./St. George's School), a junior forward on the men's soccer team, Galen Guindon (Wallingford, Pa./Friends Central), a junior midfielder on the men's soccer team, Ali Metzger (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh), a sophomore midfielder on the field hockey team, and Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic), a junior outside hitter on the volleyball team.

Each school selected its four nominees, all of whom had to compete in any of the six fall sports for which the Landmark Conference conducts a championship. In addition, the nominees had to be a sophomore, junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Greco, who was the 2008 recipient of Goucher's Ruth Baird Thompson Award which recognizes academic excellence and sportsmanship in an athletic endeavor, lists international relations and Spanish as his two majors. He scored three goals and was awarded three assists for a total of nine points in 2008.

Guindon, who is a music major with a concentration in performance and history, started all 17 games for the Gophers this season and finished with one goal and three assists. He was a second-team selection at midfield as a sophmore on the 2007 All-Landmark Conference Men's Soccer Team.

In her second season as the starting center midfielder, Metzger supplied the Gophers with three goals and five assists in 2008. She is an art major with a minor in commucations.

Smith, who has one season of eligibility remaining, already holds the school record for most kills in a career (1,146). A biology major with a minor in chemistry, she was a second-team selection at outside hitter on the 2008 All-Landmark Conference Volleyball Team.

The 2008 Fall Landmark All-Academic Team features 17 seniors, 12 juniors and three sophomores. Greco and Smith are two of the seven honorees who also represented their school on last year's inaugural Fall Landmark All-Academic Team.
