Ditmore Joins Levi as Only Players to Surpass 200 Service Aces
TOWSON, Md. – Goucher's winning streak at home against
non-conference opponents came to an end after 18 matches tonight
when the Gophers were handed a 3-0 setback by DeSales.
In what was essentially the rubber match of the season series between the two teams, the Bulldogs were victorious 25-20, 25-14, 25-21. Goucher picked up its first 2009 win on September 5 when it defeated DeSales, 3-2 (26-24, 25-22, 12-25, 16-25, 15-10), at the Johns Hopkins Invitational, but the Bulldogs came back to down the Gophers, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17), two weeks later.
Each team had one player with a double-double in kills and digs: for DeSales (10-6), it was Kylie Fehnel, who contributed 14 kills and 18 digs to the victory; for the Gophers (8-8), it was Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic), who finished with 13 kills and 15 digs.
Because Fehnel had only 19 hitting attempts and she delievered her 14 kills without making a single error, her hitting percentage for the match was a remarkable .737.
Catie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca) served one ace during the match and it was the 201st of her career. She became only the second player in the history of Goucher's volleyball program to surpass 200 service aces during her career. The other was Karen Levi, who served 267 aces during her four seasons (1992-95) with the Gophers.
