Gophers Nail Down No. 4 Seed, Playoff Match at Home

Sauvage-Mar Surpasses 2,000 Career Assists During Susquehanna Match
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Goucher secured the No. 4 seed —
and the right to host the No. 5 seed in a first-round match in the
upcoming Landmark Conference postseason tournament that goes with
it —by knocking off Scranton, 3-0, today.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-21, 25-20. It was Goucher's first victory over Scranton in the sport of volleyball since 1998.
The Gophers (13-11, 3-3 Landmark) went 1-2 during the second weekend of Landmark Conference matches. On Saturday, they were beaten by Susquehanna, 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23), and Catholic, 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-17).
Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic), who averaged 4.2 kills and 6.7 digs per set during the three matches, finished with a 14-kill, 20-dig performance against the Royals (5-17, 0-6 Landmark).
Claire Sauvage-Mar (New Delhi, India/American Embassy School) reached a milestone in the Susquehanna match. The junior setter was credited with 37 assists against the Crusaders (18-10, 4-0 Landmark), enough to make her only the third player in the history of Goucher's volleyball program to surpass 2,000 assists during her career.
Smith supplied the Gophers with 11 kills and 25 digs in the match against the Cardinals (18-9, 3-2 Landmark), the most digs by a Goucher player in a three-set match all season.
