Four-Year Starters Helped Gophers Go 17-12, Reach Semifinals
MADISON, N.J. — Goucher landed a pair of players —
senior outside hitter Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long
Beach Polytechnic) and senior middle
hitter Catie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna
Blanca) — on the 2009 All-Landmark Conference
Volleyball Team, which was revealed today.
Each head coach in the conference took part in the voting and the balloting produced a first team and a second team. Smith and Ditmore were both among the seven players voted on to the All-Landmark second team.
Smith was also a second-team All-Landmark selection in 2007 and 2008, making her only the third player in the history of Goucher's volleyball program to earn all-conference honors three times during their careers. The others are Laurie Bender (1992-93-94) and Shannon Towner (1996-97-98).
Smith entered her final season with the Gophers as the program's all-time leader in kills. She added a team-leading 417 kills in 2009, bringing her career total to 1,563, plus she was the only player in the Landmark Conference this season to average more than four kills per set.
In addition to kills, Smith led the Gophers in attack percentage (.208), digs (451) and service aces (45) this season.
Ditmore averaged 1.31 kills and 2.23 digs in the 98 sets she appeared in this season. She ranks among the Goucher volleyball program's all-time leaders in two categories: second in service aces (218) and fourth in assists (1,473).
Smith and Ditmore are both four-year starters who helped the Gophers achieve a 17-12 record and advance to the semifinals of the 2009 Landmark Conference postseason tournament.
