WESTMINSTER, Md. – Forced to compete with only eight players, the Goucher volleyball dropped a pair of 3-0 results to Muhlenberg and McDaniel this afternoon. The Gophers fell 20-25, 17-25, 15-25 to the Mules to start the day before losing 16-25, 23-25, 25-27 to the host Green Terror.
Goucher sees its record fall to 6-5 this season with the defeats.
The Gophers struggled throughout their match against Muhlenberg, never holding a lead in any set beyond the opening point. Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had 11 kills and 10 digs to lead the way for Goucher. Tori Rain (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) added nine digs while Corinne Kahler (York, Pa./York Country Day) chipped in six kills and four digs.
Goucher got off to a better start versus the Green Terror, with the two teams even at 14 midway through the first set. McDaniel, however, scored the next eight points to take the early lead. The Gophers had another opportunity in the second set, grabbing a 23-20 edge before the Green Terror went on a 5-0 run to steal the set.
The squads were never separated by more than three points in the final set, but again it was McDaniel that emerged with the victory to seal the sweep.
Chalk again led the Gophers with 15 kills and 13 digs. She has now recorded double-digit totals in both of those categories on five separate occasions this season, including her last three matches overall. Hannah Kuehl (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) added nine kills for the Gophers while Kahler had seven. Rain matched Chalk with 13 digs.
The Gophers return to the court with a 7 p.m. home matchup against Delaware Valley on Monday night.
