Royals Hand Gophers Four-Set Defeat at Catholic
WASHINGTON -- Opening up its second weekend of Landmark Conference play, the Goucher volleyball team fell in four sets to Scranton this afternoon. After a difficult first set, the Gophers were much more competitive in the final three, but they were ultimately edged 12-25, 22-25, 25-16, 20-25 by the Royals.

The defeat was the fifth in a row for Goucher (9-15, 0-4 Landmark). Scranton (8-19, 2-3 Landmark) has now won three straight.
Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had 10 kills and 11 digs for Goucher, totaling at least 10 in each category for the 13th match this season. Addie Lanzarotta (Los Angeles, Calif./Culver City) added six kills behind a strong .333 attack percentage, and she also had a team-high three blocks. Michelle Tweedie (Accra, Ghana/Lincoln Community School) chipped in five kills, leading the team with a .364 attack percentage, and a season-high five digs.
Corinne Kahler (York, Pa./York Country Day) paced the Gophers with 13 digs, while Meredith Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) recorded 10 digs for a second-consecutive match. The pair also added two aces apiece.
With the setback, Goucher falls to 2-3 in four-set matches this season, and 5-6 in matches played at neutral sites.
The Gophers conclude the weekend with a 10:30 a.m. matchup against perennial conference powerhouse Juniata tomorrow morning.
