BALTIMORE, Md. — Goucher managed to win only one set in the three matches it played this weekend at the Greg Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament.
The first opponent first-year head coach Kelli Wilkinson's squad faced was Stevenson on Friday and the Mustangs (4-1) prevailed 3-1 (25-8, 25-10, 17-25, 25-8). Hannah Kuehl (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) accounted for 11 of the Gophers' 23 kills in the four-set match.
Erika DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) led Goucher in digs with a total of 17.
Goucher's first match today was against Bridgewater (Va.) and despite a 12-kill, four-dig effort from Michelle Tweedie (Accra, Ghana/Lincoln Community School), the Gophers bowed to the Eagles (2-4), 3-0. Set scores were 25-19, 32-30, 25-13l.
The 12 kills is a season-high for one match for Tweedie, who finished with a .333 attack percentage by making only three hitting errors in 27 attempts.
The Gophers (3-5) wrapped up the tournament by facing Johns Hopkins and the Blue Jays (2-4) came out on top, 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-12). For Goucher, which committed nine hitting errors and ended up with a .018 attack percentage, no player had more than five kills.
Up next for Goucher is a match against Wesley on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Dover, Del.
