Gophers Pluck Pair of Wins in Trip to Pennsylvania

ABINGTON, Pa. — Goucher's trip north of the Mason-Dixon line today was a productive one: The Gophers picked off a pair of Pennsylvania opponents.
Hannah Kuehl (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) and Kelly Budge (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) both registered 11 kills in the opening match, a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-22) victory over Penn St.-Abington. Kuehl was extremely effective against the Nittany Lions (3-4) as she collected her 11 kills in 23 attempts, while making only two hitting errors (.391 attack percentage).
In the opening set, Penn St.-Abington was serving to create a 21-21 tie, but Goucher earned the point due to a service error. With Jess Jameyson (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) serving, the Gophers took the next three points on three consecutive kills, two of which were executed by Corinne Kahler (York, Pa./York Country Day).
Goucher never trailed in the second set and took the lead in the third set on a kill by Budge that put the Gophers up 19-18.
Kuehl delivered another strong performance in a 3-0 triumph over Summit (Pa.), contributing 16 kills to the 25-14, 25-9, 25-9 win. The senior middle hitter finished with a .500 attack percentage.
The .361 team attack percentage was the highest in a match for the Gophers (4-5) so far this season.
Sarah Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) was credited with a total of 34 assists in the two matches, including a team-high 26 in the opener againsPenn St.-Abington. Erika DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) supplied 17 assists to the victory over the Defenders (1-7).
Meredith Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) ended up with a total of 29 digs in the two matches.
Goucher's next match is against Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
