Gophers Pick Off One Set from Cougars, Knights

DALLAS, Pa. — Goucher took a set from both opponents it faced today, but the Gophers' win total for 2015 remained stuck on nine.
Against Misericordia, head coach Kelli Wilkinson's squad captured the second set, but fell to the Cougars, 3-1 (25-9, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18). In the second match, the Gophers went up one set to none, but Arcadia allied for a 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-11, 25-18) victory.
Sarah Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) supplied the Gophers with 35 assists in the first match, helping Hannah Kuehl (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional), Kelly Budge (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) and Michelle Tweedie (Accra, Ghana/Lincoln Community School) combine for a total of 33 kills.
Corinne Kahler (York, Pa./York Country Day) had 17 digs and three service aces to go along with the seven kills she knocked down against the Cougars (12-17).
Only Kuehl reached double figures in kills for Goucher in the second match as she finished with nine, four of which she collected against the Knights (11-14) in the second set. Johnson added 22 assists.
The Gophers (9-19) wrap up their 2015 campaign with a pair of non-conference matches over the next five days. The first one is against Notre Dame (Md.) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
