Goucher Volleyball Defeats Elizabethtown 3-0
The Goucher Gophers opened the Landmark Conference with a big win against the Elizabethtown Blue Jays.
BETHLEHEM, PA. - The Goucher Gophers opened the Landmark Conference with a big win against the Elizabethtown Blue Jays. In the first set, Goucher and Elizabethtown traded points back and forth until Goucher’s Sarah Weeden (Freshmen OH) went on a seven point run to take what was a 4 point deficit to a 3 point lead. Goucher maintained the momentum to finish off the set 25-16.
The second set was a different story with both teams siding out efficiently, and neither team taking a strong lead. The Gophers maintained composure and assertiveness when the match got tight. Junior Kelly Budge came up with some big swings to help the Gophers close out the set at 22-20.
For the final set, the Blue Jays came out battling back to lead the Gophers 6-1. Goucher quickly closed the gap, and put pressure on Elizabethtown, with a service ace by Sarah Weeden and three kills from Kelly Budge, Jess Jameyson, and Meredith Johnson. Goucher defeated Elizabeth town 25-21.
‘I was very pleased with our performance today. The team played well together, and executed the skills and strategies that we focused on in practice all week. I am happy about the win, but more so about the progress this group has made. We will certainly use this win as momentum and confidence moving forward,’ says Head Coach Kait Kozak.
