Lancaster, PA. - Lancaster Bible College defeated Goucher’s volleyball team in a three set sweep in out of conference play that took place on Tuesday, October 25th in Lancaster. Junior Kelly Budge (Harrington Park, NJ) and freshmen Sarah Weeden (Monmouth Junction, NJ) carried the Gopher squad with a combined 24 kills, 3 digs, and 7 service aces. “Kelly and Sarah continue to get better”, said Head Coach Kait Kozak of this tandem, and “that is showing in their performances.” Lancaster Bible was the more well-rounded team on this night, and Kozak observed that “the team effort is what matters most.” The loss drops the Gophers overall record to 4-19. Lancaster Bible, with the win, moves to 15-16 overall.
Lancaster Bible received big contributions from Emily Olson, Alyssa Bouslog, and Ashtyn Bouslog. The three of them combined to earn 26 kills in the match. “We had difficulty stopping their middle hitters,” said Kozak. “That was a huge factor in the outcome of the match.”
After taking the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-21, Lancaster Bible went on a 7-0 run in the third to turn a 6-4 lead into a 13-4 advantage. The Gophers closed the gap to 18-16, but a five point service run from the Charges swung the momentum their way at 23-16. Back-to-back kills from Ashtyn Bouslog closed the match in 3 sets with a final set score of 25-17. Kozak’s view of the performance was positive as she commented that “overall I am pleased with our play tonight despite the outcome. We never gave up, and that showed in all three sets. Our mental toughness has taken on a new definition this year and I am proud of our efforts in that category. It is a big part of the game.” Says Kozak.
Goucher returns to action on Thursday, October 27th when they travel to Notre Dame of Maryland University for a 7:00 pm match.
