Gopher Volleyball Falls to Bridgewater/Salem

In game one, Goucher fell to the Eagles of Bridgewater in straight sets, dropping sets by scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-16.
Offensively in the match, junior Kelly Budge led the way, totaling 11 kills. Additionally, she posted her first double-double of the season, finishing with 14 digs to go along with her kill total.
Freshman Sarah Weeden posted five kills against the Eagles, while tallying seven total digs. Freshman setter Olivia Rhodes dished 18 assists, while she and Virginia Estes each totaled a service ace.
In the second matchup of the day, Goucher fell to the Spirits of Salem College in straight sets (25-10, 25-15 and 25-21).
The Gophers were led by Weeden in match number two, as she tallied 12 kills, breaking the 10-kill plateau for the second time in three matches to open the season. Budge completed her day with six kills, while Meredith Johnson added three.
Defensively, Weeden and Johnson posted seven digs, apiece, while Budge, Estes and Rhodes all totaled three. Rhodes also collected 21 assists in the three-set match.
The Gophers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 7, as they open the home portion of their schedule against Dickinson College. The matchup, set to take place in the Decker SRC Arena, is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
