Gopher Volleyball Opens Home Schedule Against Dickinson

The Gophers fell in the opening set, 25-18, before dropping sets two (25-21) and three (25-16) to the Red Devils.
The opening set started in Goucher's favor, as the Gophers opened a four-point advantage midway through the game. Up 8-7, a 4-1 run, including a kill from Jess Jameyson, put Goucher on top 12-8.
The lead remained at four (14-10), until an 8-1 swing put the momentum in the favor of the Red Devils, 18-15. From there, the Gophers would drop the opening set, 25-18.
Set two was the closest of the three as neither team held more than a four-point advantage throughout. A three-point swing in favor of the Gophers put the game within reach at 16-15, but Dickinson was able to keep Goucher at bay to take set two, 25-21.
The Red Devils would wrap up the third and final set, using a 10-4 run to end the game, handing Goucher the 25-16 defeat in the decisive set and a 3-0 loss in the match.
Offensively for the Gophers, freshman Sarah Weeden continued to provide the offensive fire, leading the team in kills for the third time in the first four matches (10). She also tied for the team-lead in digs (nine), while notching a pair of service aces.
Overall, the Gophers posted a season-high nine aces, including three each from Virginia Estes and Olivia Rhodes. Rhodes also led the team with 13 assists while adding five digs.
Goucher will be back in action on Saturday, September 10, as they host the Ravens of Rosemont College. The match is scheduled for a noon start.
