Gophers Dominate Griffins in the Decker SRC
The Goucher College women’s volleyball team (1-7, Landmark 0-0) dominated non-conference opponent Gwynedd Mercy 3-0 on Wednesday evening in the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
TOWSON, Md. – The Goucher College women's volleyball team (1-7, Landmark 0-0) dominated non-conference opponent Gwynedd Mercy 3-0 on Wednesday evening in the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
The Gophers took the match in straight sets: 25-17, 25-18, 25-12.
First-year Greta Coss (Bowie, Md) led the Gophers with 12 kills and a .556 kill percentage on the evening. Sophomore Sarah Weeden (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) chipped in with seven kills. First-year Emily Sorrells (Annapolis, Md.) had a stellar night as well with a .429 kill percentage.
Everyone chipped in on defense for the Gophers while Coss and Sorrells led the team with eight and seven digs, respectively. Weeden and sophomore Olivia Rhodes (St. Charles, Mizz.) added five and four digs, respectively.
Rhodes was on fire while serving, collecting five service aces – second most in her career (10 service aces against Rosemont in 2016). Weeden tallied three while first-year Katie Hessenius (Aldie, Va.) and Coss chipped in with two each.
The Griffins had no answer on offense as they completed the night with a .032 kill percentage as a team. Goucher posted a season-high .385 kill percentage on the evening.
The Gophers return to the court on Saturday, September 16th when they travel across town to Johns Hopkins University to take on the Blue Jays and the Owls of Bryn Mawr.
