READING, Pa. - After dropping the first two sets to host Alvernia on Saturday, the Goucher College volleyball team came back with a vengeance, taking the final three sets to notch a thrilling 3-2 win on the road (22-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-10).
With the win, the Gophers moved to 10-13 overall for the year, as Goucher has now won double-digits matches in a season for the first time since 2015. Alvernia fell to 4-13 with the loss.
After dropping a tough first and second set in the match, Goucher faced a 2-0 deficit entering the third. There, they raced out to a big lead (16-9), then held off a late Alvernia rally to get on the board with a win and extend the game to a fourth set.
In that fourth set, it was a dominating effort by the Gophers, as they once again opened a large lead on Alvernia in the middle of action (18-10) and never looked back in a seven-point win that sent the match to a decisive fifth set.
There, Goucher took over, rolling to a six-point victory to take a thrilling five-set victory in come-from-behind fashion on the road.
Overall, Goucher was led on the attack once again by sophomore Greta Coss (Bowie, Md.) who finished with 18 kills, along with 19 digs. First-year Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn.) set up the attack all night, finishing with 36 assists, while on defense, first-year Cat Harley (Colorado Springs, Colo.) ended the game with 37 digs, a team-high. DeJaeger also chipped in on defense, finishing with 16 digs.
The Goucher College volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, as they host Catholic in a Landmark Conference match-up. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
