Kathy Frankowski Named Goucher College Women's Volleyball Head Coach

BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College Director of Athletics/Associate Dean of Students Dr. Andrew Wu has appointed Kathy Frankowski the interim women's volleyball head coach for the 2019 season.

"We are incredibly fortunate to bring someone of Coach Frankowski's experience and expertise on board following a quick search," said Wu. "Kathy is eager to jump right into the season and I have no doubt she'll provide the team with a great experience while continuing to push our volleyball program after taking a step forward last year." 

Frankowski comes to Goucher with five years of Division III head coaching experience and nine years of collegiate coaching experience as a volleyball coach. She takes over a Gophers volleyball team that won 13 games last season to post its best win total in 10 seasons. The team was young in 2018 with only one junior, three sophomores and eight freshman. Goucher volleyball has a bright future with a roster size for the 2019 season expected to be around 18 players.

"I am extremely grateful and excited for this opportunity to be part of Goucher College Athletics," said Frankowski. "I would like to thank Athletic Director Wu, the committee and local campus community for entrusting me to represent Goucher with these wonderful student-athletes."

Frankowski has coached in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for the last five years after serving as the head coach for four seasons at Mitchell College (2014-17) and one season at Newbury College in 2018 before the college closed its doors at the end of the academic year. 

She coached three players that received All-NECC honors for a total of five all-conference honors along with one sportsmanship award winner and an all-academic selection while at Mitchell College. She coached the Mitchell women's volleyball team to the No. 6 seed in her final season and the Newbury men's volleyball team to the No. 5 seed in the 2019 NECC Tournament. 

Frankowski also has collegiate coaching experience as an assistant coach at Southern Connecticut State University (2012-14), Southern New Hampshire University (2011) and notched her collegiate coaching start at her alma mater Plymouth State University (2011).  

Frankowski was a four-year standout on the Plymouth State women's volleyball team, helping the Panthers to a 93-46 record in her four seasons. Plymouth State went to the ECAC Championships all four years and won the title in her junior year and played in the championship game in her final campaign. She finished ranked third in program history in all-time career service aces (234) and fourth in service ace percentage (0.54).

A member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, she is a 2011 Plymouth State graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and is currently working on her Master's of Education in physical education at Plymouth State with an athletic administration concentration and an expected graduation date of May 2020.
