Chapman Helps Goucher Women's Volleyball Swat Shenandoah 3-0 To Continue Best Start Since 2006

BALTIMORE, Md. – Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) notched her second double-digit kill match with a career-high 12 kills to help Goucher College continue its best start since 2006 with a 3-0 win against Shenandoah University in non-conference women's volleyball action on Wednesday.

Chapman recorded 18 kills in her first two games including 10 put aways in her collegiate debut against Notre Dame on August 30. The freshman then notched a career-high 12 kills and added four digs while accounting for 12.5 points in the win on Wednesday.

Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) inched closer to a double-double after tallying 11 assists and seven digs. The sophomore has posted double-figure assist in all three games while the seven digs where a season high.

Vendela Lundgren (Columbia, Md./Howard) added a career-high 15 assists and her second double-digit assist performance while Emily Sorrells (Annapolis, Md./South River) added a season-high eight kills in the winning effort. 

In the first set with Goucher holding a 5-4 lead, the Gophers used an 11-3 run to take a 16-7 advantage. Chapman had three kills while Sorrells added two in the spurt. The Hornets swarmed back to cut the margin to 21-16, but Bianca Brown (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) drilled home a 25-19 first set win with a kill to close out the set.

It was a similar start to the second set with the Gophers holding a 5-4 lead before they went on a 20-10 run to close the set with a 25-14 win to a take a two-sets lead. Chapman and Brown each had two kills in the run.

The third set was a closely contested set that came down to the final couple of points. With the score tied at 24, Chapman gave Goucher the lead for good on a kill before the Gophers won the set and the match on an attack error for a 26-24 third-set victory.

Goucher continues its best start since 2006 when that squad won the first six matches while the Gophers defeated Shenandoah for the first time since 2006.

Goucher returns to action when the squad hits the road for the first time at Cedar Crest in a tri-match with Pratt. Matches are at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
