Goucher Women's Volleyball Falls In Straight Sets To McDaniel

BALTIMORE, Md. – Despite a double-double by Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon), Goucher College fell in straight sets 3-0 to McDaniel College in non-conference women's volleyball action on Thursday.

DeJaeger finished the match with 17 digs and 15 assists to register her first double-double of the season and the 17th of her career after turning the trick 16 times as a freshman. The 17 digs marked the first time this season the sophomore posted double figures in the category.

Cat Hartley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain narrowly missed a double-double, finishing the match with 21 digs and eight assists. Hartley reached 20 digs for the second-straight match and the third time this season.

Emily Sorrells (Annapolis, Md./South River) registered a season-high 12 kills and hit double figures in kills for the second-straight match and the fourth time in her career. Sorrells also spent the day running the athletic Instagram account in a GameDay Takeover.

McDaniel jumped out to a 17-11 lead in the first set before the Gophers rallied to tie the set at 20. Goucher had three service aces in the 9-3 run by Hartley, Virginia Estes (Homewood, Ala./Homewood) and Bianca Brown (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) with Brown's ace tying the set at 20. The Green Terror then scored five of the final seven points in the set to earn the 25-22 win.

Goucher jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the second set. Estes had two aces and Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Kapalama)  added another ace in this stretch. With the Baltimore program holding a 22-17 lead after a Linnea Prudell (York, Pa./Central York) ace, just like the Gophers rallied in the first set McDaniel used an 8-3 run to tie the set at 25. Trailing 26-25, Sorrells recorded consecutive kills to hand Goucher a 27-26 lead and the sophomore tied the set for the final time with another kill at 28 before the Green Terror posted the final two points to secure a 30-28 second set.

The third set had a familiar ring to the second set with the hosts jumping out to a 17-12 edge. Melchor and Brown each had three kills to help hand the Gophers the five-point lead. McDaniel then used a 9-3 run to take a 21-20 lead. After a Sorrells kill to tie the set at 21, the Green Terror posted the final four points of the set to take the third set and the match with a 25-21 win.

Goucher heads to Wesley College on Saturday for a tri-match with Misericordia. The Gophers will face the host Wesley at 11 a.m. and Misericordia at 1 p.m.
