Goucher Women's Volleyball Toppled At Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Goucher College drops a non-conference volleyball match in four sets to Eastern Mennonite University on Friday.

Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Kapalama)and Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) each recorded double-doubles for the Gophers. Melchor notched her second straight double-double after posting 12 digs and 10 kills against Catholic on Wednesday. The sophomore reversed the numbers in the category on Route 42 on Friday with 10 digs and 12 kills. The kill number was a season high while she has registered four double-doubles this season and five in her career.

DeJaeger tallied her first double-double since her return with 19 assists and 10 digs for her sixth double-double in 2019 and the 22nd of her career.  It was also the seventh time this season she has recorded at least 19 assists in a match.

Bianca Brown (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) also had 12 kills against the Royals while Emily Sorrells (Annapolis, Md./South River) and Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) each had 10 kills. Cat Hartley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) had a team-high 27 digs while Vendela Lundgren (Columbia, Md./Howard) and Linnea Prudell (York, Pa./Central York) added 10 assists apiece.

The Gophers jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first set and maintained the margin at 18-10. With Goucher leading 22-16, Eastern Mennonite went on a 5-2 run to make it a three-point set before the Gophers won the set on an attack error, 25-21.

In the second set with the score tied at 19, the Royals won six of the final seven points to secure the second set 25-20 to even the match at one set apiece.

Goucher was serving at 23 and 24-all, but Eastern Mennonite posted three of the final four points including two straight to end the set with the Royals taking the set, 26-24.

The Gophers grabbed a 20-18 edge thanks to consecutive kills by Chapman and Sorrells only to see the Royals wrap up the match thanks to a 7-3 run for a 25-23 four-set win.

Goucher concludes its trip in the Old Dominion when it travels to face Eastern Mennonite's biggest conference rival Bridgewater College on Saturday. Match time is 11 a.m.
