Goucher Women's Volleyball Drops Match At Bridgewater
BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Goucher College falls in straight sets at Bridgewater College of Virginia in non-conference women's volleyball action on Saturday.
Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Kapalama) narrowly missed her third-straight double-double, finishing the match with 11 digs and nine kills.
Vendela Lundgren (Columbia, Md./Howard) had a team-high 15 assists while Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) added 11 assists.
The Gophers jumped out to an early 10-8 lead in the first set and grabbed a 13-11 lead after a pair of Melchor kills. An Eagles service error gave Goucher the lead on last time at 14-13, but Bridgewater closed the half on a 12-4 run to take the first set 25-18.
In the second set with the Eagles leading 21-16, the Gophers scored three-straight points to cut the margin to 21-18 only to see Bridgewater close the set with three of the final four points for a 25-19 win and a two-set lead.
The Eagles jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the third set en route to a 25-15 third-set win and the match.
Goucher returns to action on Wednesday at home to host Gallaudet University for Spike or Treat Night. Goucher athletics will be hosting a Halloween Costume Contest in between sets two and three. In addition, every successful Gopher kill will result in candy being thrown into the crowd. Match time is 7 p.m.
