BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College lost of pair of Landmark Conference women's volleyball matches on Saturday to be eliminated from playoff contention. The Gophers fell 3-1 to Elizabethtown College and then dropped a 3-0 match against the University of Scranton to end the season.
Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Kapalama) and Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn./Brien MacMahon) both had double-doubles against Elizabethtown and narrowly missed a double-double against Scranton. Melchor posted 12 kills and 10 digs against the Blue Jays and then had nine kills and 11 digs against Scranton. DeJaeger registered 22 assists and 10 digs in the opening match and 12 assists and eight digs in the second match of the evening.
Cat Hartley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) tallied 41 digs on the day with 25 digs against the Blue Jays and 16 digs against the Royals while Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) posted 16 kills on the day including 10 kills in the opener.
Prior to the Scranton match, Goucher College honored senior Virginia Estes (Homewood, Ala./Homewood) for her hard work and dedication for the college and the women's lacrosse program for the last four years. She finished her career with 814 digs, 150 service aces, 92 assists and 20 kills. The senior had 17 digs, two service aces and a kill in her final day of collegiate action.
Goucher lost 3-1 to Elizabethtown 25-20, 27-29, 25-17 and 25-13 while the Gophers fell 25-13, 25-17 and 25-23 to Scranton.
Goucher finished the season 12-14 overall and 0-6 in league play.
