The Goucher volleyball team dropped the first two sets in back and forth action where they struggled to find consistency, losing both sets 23-25. First year head coach, Maggie Catherina, was able to get the Gophers to refocus and they came back from the intermission to dominate the third set 25-15. The fourth set was another back and forth affair, however, the Gophers gritty play earned them a 25-21 decision and forced a fifth and decisive set. Junior Elizabeth Bobo was a force at the net and at the service line where she delivered 4 aces to help the Gophers close out the fifth and final set, 15-11.
Tonight's win is the first collegiate victory for head coach Maggie Catherina and puts the Gophers at 1-0 on the young season. Goucher will be back in action on Saturday, September 4th, as they host a tri-match. Goucher will host Widener at 12pm, followed by Widener versus St. Mary's (MD) at 2pm, and close out the day with the Gophers taking on St. Mary's (MD) at 4pm in the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
