Volleyball comes up short in tri-match home opener

The Goucher Women's Volleyball team moves to 1-2 on the season so far after two losses in the home tri-match on Saturday.  Both matches, against Widener and St. Mary's (Md.) were lost in three sets.

The first match stayed close for the entirety of the competition and was a hard-fought battle.  Rachel Chapman led the charge offensively with 10 kills, while Neli La Court Ruiz had a firm defensive stand with 18 digs.  The match ended in three close sets (21-25, 25-27, 21-25).

The squad's second match of the day came against a St. Mary's team with a chip on their shoulder; the Seahawks came fresh off a loss to Widener and were looking to edge out a win.  Nicole Blount led the Gophers offense with 9 points and 7 kills.  But Blount and the team could not finesse a win against a hot Seahawks squad and the match ended after three (14-25, 16-25, 20-25).

The team is back in action at home on Tuesday against Rosemont College.  Game time is 7:00PM.
