Gophers Battle, Drop Two to Close Stevenson Quad

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Goucher College women's volleyball team dropped two matches to close out the Stevenson University Quad at Owings Mills Gymnasium on Saturday.  The Gophers dropped a 3-0 decision to Cabrini University, then fell 3-0 to Arcadia University in the nightcap.

• Set scores against Cabrini (2-2) were 25-18, 25-21, 25-21.
• In the second set Goucher (1-5) trailed 19-10 before using a 9-2 run to pull within two, 21-19, on a Cabrini attack error.
• The Cavaliers closed out the set with the final four points.
• In the third set, Goucher was within one, 15-14, following an Olivia DeBiasio (Norristown, Pa. / Norristown) kill before Cabrini used a 4-1 spurt to go up 19-15.
• Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) led the Gophers with nine kills on .294 hitting.
• Nicole Kovach (New York, N.Y./Quest to Learn) racked up 15 digs, with DeBiasio adding nine to go along with four kills.
• Rianne Nickerson (Corning, N.Y. / Corning-Painted Post) and Riley Kocell (Waxhaw, N.C. / Cuthbertson) combined for 20 assists, with Kocell recording three service aces.
• Cabrini hit .171 while holding the Gophers to .028.

• Set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 25-14.
• Goucher led 10-8 in the second set following a kill by Lucy Hendricks (Fort Bragg, N.C./Fort Bragg) before a 9-2 Arcadia (7-2) run put the Knights up 17-12.
• The Gophers cut the lead to 17-14 on kills by Sarah Ferguson (Mullica Hill, N.J. / Clearview Regional) and Elizabeth Bobo (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) before six straight points by Arcadia.
• Bobo had five kills on .294 hitting in the nightcap.
• Kovach totaled 21 digs, with Necole Stravino (Quezon City, Philippines / Nandua (Va.) notching nine.
• Kocell finished with 11 assists, while Nickerson had eight.
• Arcadia hit .178 while the Gophers hit .053.

• Stravino's nine digs against Arcadia were a season high.
• Kovach has reached double figures in digs in all six matches and is averaging six digs per set, tops in the Landmark Conference.

• Goucher opens a five-match homestand Tuesday night when it entertains Cairn in a 7 pm match at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
