TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's volleyball team dropped 3-0 decisions to Rowan University and Eastern University in its "Dig Pink" tri-match for breast cancer awareness Saturday at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Set scores against Rowan were 25-19, 25-22, 26-24.
- Goucher (1-9) jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first following a service ace by Eniyah Rodriguez (Virginia Beach, Va/Landstown).
- Rowan (10-0) chipped away and tied the set 11-11 before a 6-2 Gopher spurt made it 17-12 on a kill by Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown).
- Trailing 18-15 the Profs reeled off eight straight points to take a 23-18 lead.
- In the second a 10-1 Gopher run made it 14-9 following an Eden Adcock (Stratford, N.J./Sterling Regional) kill.
- Goucher was down 23-22 following a Rodriguez service ace but Rowan recorded the final two points.
- The hosts trailed 24-19 in the third when they reeled off five straight points to make it 24-24 after a Turner service ace and a Prof attack error.
- A service error and a Rowan kill closed out the match.
- Turner led the Gophers with eight kills and added five service aces.
- Riley Kocell (Waxhaw, N.C./Cuthbertson) notched a double-double with 13 assists and 12 digs.
- Nicole Kovach (New York, N.Y./Quest to Learn) recorded 11 digs, while Adcock posted four blocks.
- Goucher, which held Rowan to its lowest hitting percentage of the season (.083) racked up 11 service aces.
- Set scores against Eastern (8-2) were 25-14, 25-11, 25-12.
- The first set was tied six times early and was tied 10-10 following a kill by Lucy Hendricks (Fort Bragg, Calif./Fort Bragg).
- The Eagles reeled off 10 straight points to take control of the set.
- The guests jumped out to big leads in each of the next two sets.
- Hendricks posted a team-high five kills.
- Kovach recorded 14 kills, with Rianne Nickerson (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Panted Post) adding 10.
- Kocell chipped in with nine digs and eight assists.
- Kovach has reached double digits in digs in all 10 matches to date.
- Second-year Goucher head coach Maggie Catherina is a 2016 graduate of Rowan and served as an assistant coach at her alma mater before arriving at Goucher in December, 2020.
- Gopher assistant coach Casey Buford is a 2014 graduate of Rowan.
- Goucher wraps up its homestand Tuesday night when it hosts McDaniel in a 7 pm contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
