Gophers Fall to Gallaudet on the Road

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Host Gallaudet University swept a non-conference women's volleyball contest from Goucher College 3-0 Wednesday evening at the Gallaudet Field House. Set scores were 25-19, 25-14, 25-16.
- After trailing 8-4 early, Goucher (3-12) took an 11-10 lead following an Amel Lightfoot (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) kill and a Bison (8-10) attack error.
- With the Gophers leading 13-12, Gallaudet scored four straight to take a 16-13 lead.
- A kill by Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) stopped the run.
- Goucher got back within two, 21-19, on a block by Elizabeth Bobo (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili).
- The hosts scored the final four points to take the opening set.
- Gallaudet scored the first four points of the second, with a Turner kill being the first Gopher point of the set.
- The Bison opened up a 14-6 lead following three straight points.
- Goucher scored the next two points on a Lucy Hendricks (Fort Bragg, Calif./Fort Bragg) kill and a GU ball handling error, but got no closer.
- Goucher jumped out to an 8-5 lead in the third, including a pair of Bobo kills and a service ace by Rianne Nickerson (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post).
- Trailing again 13-12, Gallaudet rattled off four straight points to take a 16-13 lead.
- The Bison put the set and the match away with six straight points to go up 24-15.
- Turner had a team-high six kills for Goucher and also recorded 10 digs and eight assists.
- Hendricks added five kills.
- Riley Kocell (Waxhaw, N.C. / Cuthbertson) racked up 14 assists.
- Kovach led Goucher with 15 digs, while Nickerson added 12.
- Gallaudet hit .313 as a team and held Goucher to .115 hitting on the night.
- Goucher hosts a Landmark Conference quad-match on Saturday. The Gophers face Moravian at 11 am and Scranton at 6:30 pm at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
