Gophers Drop Two to Open Season

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Goucher College women's volleyball team fell to Penn State Harrisburg and Notre Dame Maryland to open the season Saturday in a tri-match hosted by Penn State Harrisburg.  Both matches were dropped by 3-0 scores.

• Set scores were 25-20, 25-14, 25-15.
• Penn State Harrisburg (2-0) jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first set before Goucher (0-2) closed within 19-17 following a Kailee Turner kill.
• Turner led the Gophers in the first match with eight kills.  She also recorded seven digs.
• Nicole Kovach led Goucher with 14 digs against Penn State Harrisburg.
• Madison Amaya and Riley Kocell each posted 11 assists.
• The Lions hit .374 for the match while holding the Gophers to .082 hitting.

• Set scores were 25-15, 25-14, 25-21.
• In the first set Goucher trailed 14-12 before the Gators (1-0) scored eight straight points.
• The Gophers rallied late in the third to pull within 22-20 on a Turner kill.
• Turner again recorded eight kills, while Imani Ward finished with six.
• Athena Savick paced Goucher with 16 digs, while Kovach and Amaya recorded nine apiece.
• Ward also contributed eight digs.
• Amaya finished with 11 assists.

• Goucher is back in action next weekend at McDaniel's tournament.  The Gophers open with Mount Aloysius on Friday, September 8 at 5 pm at the Gill Center.
• The Gophers home opener is set for Friday, September 22 against Alvernia.  First serve is slated for 6 pm.
