Gophers Sweep Cairn on the Road

LANGHORNE, Pa. - Visiting Goucher College swept Cairn University 3-0 in non-conference women's volleyball Tuesday evening at the Mason Activity Center. Set scores were 25-10, 25-18, 25-21.
- Goucher (2-7) jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first following a Kailee Turner kill.
- Up 10-5 on Cairn (3-4), the Gophers reeled off four straight points to take a 14-5 lead on a Madison Amaya service ace.
- After two straight Highlander points, the Gophers scored five straight to go up 19-7.
- A Turner kill wrapped up the set.
- Cairn scored the first four points of the second set and later opened up an 11-4 lead.
- Goucher countered with a 7-1 run capped by a Highlander attack error to pull within 12-11.
- Down 14-12, a 5-0 run that featured two kills apiece by Olivia DeBiasio and Amel Lightfoot put the Gophers up 17-14.
- The Gophers pulled away and a Turner service ace followed by a Cairn attack error made it 23-16.
- An Imani Ward kill closed out the set.
- Back-to-back kills by Lightfoot and Ward put the Gophers up 6-2 early.
- The Gophers gradually pulled away and an Athena Savick service ace put the guests up 14-7.
- Cairn cut the lead to 20-17 before a DeBiasio kill and a Cairn error gave Goucher a five-point cushion.

- Turner hit .176 and led the Gophers with 12 kills.
- Ward finished with nine kills and six digs, while DeBiasio finished with eight. It marked a career high in kills for both players.
- Amaya recorded 32 assists and tied with Nicole Kovach for the team lead in digs with 11.
- Savick added nine digs and recorded four of the Gophers' 11 service aces.
- Goucher hit a season-best .205 while holding the Highlanders to -.020 hitting.
