Gophers Battle Colonels Friday Night

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Wilkes University picked up a 3-0 Landmark Conference women's volleyball victory over Goucher College Friday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Set scores were 25-23, 25-16, 25-16.
- Goucher (3-15, 0-4 Landmark) scored the first four points of the match and led 6-1 following a Kailee Turner kill.
- After the Gophers led 8-5 following a block by Turner and Amel Lightfoot, Wilkes (9-14, 1-5) reeled off eight straight points to take a 13-8 lead.
- The Gophers trailed 18-12 when four straight points including a Nicole Kovach service ace and a Lightfoot kill pulled the hosts within two, 18-16.
- Down 22-19, Goucher scored four straight points to take a 23-22 lead.
- The Colonels responded with the final three points to take the first set.
- Goucher trailed 5-4 following an Emma Taylor kill.
- Wilkes scored six of the next eight points to build an 11-6 lead.
- Back-to-back kills by Imani Ward and Olivia DeBiasio made it 11-8.
- A 5-2 Colonel spurt put the guests up 17-11 and Wilkes scored five of the final six points to close out the set.
- Down 7-5, Goucher scored three straight to take an 8-7 lead on a Lightfoot service ace.
- After Wilkes tied it 8-8, back-to-back DeBiasio kills put Goucher in front 10-8.
- The Colonels scored seven of the next nine points to take a 15-12 lead.
- Leading 20-16, the guests scored the final five points to close out the match.
- Lightfoot had a team-best six kills, while Taylor finished with five.
- DeBiasio and Turner added four apiece.
- Athena Savick notched seven digs, with Kovach recording six to go along with her three service aces.
