Thirteen Seconds Separate Top Three Finishers
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Three runners from Goucher crossed the finish line within a span of 13 seconds in the College Women's 6,000-meter race at the Paul Short Run this afternoon.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Three runners from Goucher crossed the finish line within a span of 13 seconds in the College Women's 6,000-meter race at the Paul Short Run this afternoon.
Leading the way for the Gophers in 151st place overall was Anna Sandacz (Jessup, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School), who was clocked at 25:27. Twelve seconds back in 165th place was Camille Jorgensen (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry); one second behind Jorgensen in 167th place was Amanda Tascarella (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point).
Goucher's fourth and fifth runners were Zoe Malkin (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) in 223rd place and Annie Drascher (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) in 280th. Malkin's time was 27:16 and Drascher completed the race in 30:25.
Of the 309 runners who started and finished the race, the overall winner was Julie Friend from California (Pa.). Her winning time was 21:27. Natalie Young from Mary Washington, the top Division III runner, placed second (21:39) behind Friend.
Goucher's top five runners earned a team score of 829 points, which put head coach John Caslin's Gophers in 29th place.
One week from today, the Gophers will be hosting the Goucher Cross Country Classic. The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m.
