Hanson Leads Women, Lawrence Men in Cross Country Opener at Mustang Stampede
First-year Laila Hanson (Churchville, Md.) led the Goucher College women’s cross country team, while fellow first-year Connor Lawrence (North Potomac, Md.) led the men’s team in their 2018 season debut on Friday evening at the Mustang Stampede hosted by Stevenson.

On the women's side, Hanson was impressive in her first collegiate meet. Crossing the finish line on the 4k course in 16:48.41, she was able to register a fifth-place finish overall for the Gophers in the event. Hanson's time was also the seventh fastest in a 4k even in program history, as well.
Elsewhere for the women, sophomore Eva Bulson-Lewis (Minneapolis, Minn.) was 15th overall in 19:13.17, while senior Hannah Brogan (Chatham, N.J.) was 20th overall in 20:40.53.
A pair of first-years led the way for the men's team in the event, paced by Lawrence who finished the 4k course in 14:53.14 to place 21st. Classmate Joseph Augustine Rhodenhiser (Ann Arbor, Mich.) was 28th in 15:12.90, and senior Sean O'Flaherty (Hillsdale, Ill.) rounded out the top performances to the men's team with a 29th place finish (15:14.25).
The Goucher College men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 8, traveling to the LVC Flying Dutchman Invitational in Lebanon, Pa.
