Caslin Coaches 200th Career Meet, as Cross Country Takes Part in Don Carhcart Invitational

SALISBURY, Md. - It was a historic afternoon for the Goucher College women's and men's cross country team's on Saturday at the Don Carhcart Invitational, as head coach John Caslin coached in his 200th career meet.
Caslin, who began his career at Goucher in 1994, is in his 25th season as the head coach of the cross country and track & field programs in 2018-19. In his tenure as the cross country coach, Caslin has had three student-athletes take part in the NCAA Division III National Championships, while also coaching four CAC Male Cross Country Athletes of the Year and three CAC/Landmark Rookie Runners of the Year.
Individually in the event on Saturday for Goucher, first-year Laila Hanson (Churchville, Md.) led the Gophers on the afternoon, finishing 21st in a time of 24:08.36 on the 6K course. Elsewhere, first-year Julia Gazzola placed 65th in 26:57.72, while senior Hannah Brogan (Chatham, N.J.) was 68th with a time of 27:22.31.
For the men's team, senior Sean O'Flaherty (Hinsdale, Ill.) was the team's highest finish in the event, placing 76th with a time of 30:14.51. First-year Connor Lawrence (North Potomac, Md.), meanwhile, was Goucher's second-highest finisher, crossing the line in 30:32.36.
The Goucher College cross country programs return to action next Saturday, as the Gophers host the annual Goucher Cross Country Classic on-campus. The men's race begins at 10:30 a.m., with the women's race to follow at 11 a.m.
