Thornton-Fillyaw Finishes Eighth at Landmark Cross Country Championship
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Sophomore Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw of the Goucher College women's cross country team posted an eighth place finish to lead the Gophers at the 2023 Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Championship Friday hosted by Juniata College at Sunset Golf Course. The Gophers placed eighth out of 10 competing schools as a team.
The Goucher men's cross country team also competed and had four individuals finish, led by Jair Smith's 37th place finish.
Thornton-Fillyaw placed eighth overall with a 6K time of 23:59.30, finishing just over a minute behind race winner Kelty Oaster of Elizabethtown and 1.96 seconds behind sixth place Rachael Goodman of Moravian. Her eighth-place finish earned Thornton-Fillyaw Landmark Second Team All-Conference honors and is the highest finish by a Goucher women's cross country runner since Katherine Currier placed third in 2013.
First year Daya Sathyaraj was Goucher's next-highest finisher as she came in 71st overall with a time of 28:37.48. Skye Washington clocked in with a mark of 28:50.14, while Reese Finnigan traversed the 6K course in 30:09.61. Imaya Edmonds posted a time of 30:29.67.
On the men's side, Smith recorded an 8K time of 28:34.00. Sam Dylan was Goucher's next-highest finisher, coming in at 30:44.34 to place 66th. Pani Marousis registered a time of 30:59.38, while Johan Martinez ran in 31:08.94.
Goucher returns to action next Friday, November 3 when it hosts the ECAC Championships.
