2023-24 All-Goucher Team: First Team
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College athletic department recently announced its 2023-24 All-Goucher Team. The All-Goucher Team, established in 2010-11, is selected by a panel of coaches and administrators and represents the 10 most distinguished athletes and most outstanding coach during an academic year.
The All-Goucher Team Second Team was profiled earlier this week.
Comprising the 2023-24 All-Goucher Team First Team:
Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw (captain), sophomore, women's track and field/cross country (Adelphi, Md./Cheverly STEM Education Center)
Thornton-Fillyaw finished as a USTFCCCA All-American during both the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons, placing third in the 800 at NCAA outdoor nationals and fifth in the 800 at indoor nationals. The Landmark outdoor champion in the 1500 and indoor champion in the 800, Thornton-Fillyaw broke six school records and a pair of Landmark Conference records this season. In cross country she was Second Team All-Landmark as well as All-Region after placing 32nd at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
Clay Allen, head coach, men's tennis (coach)
Allen guided the men's tennis team to its second Landmark Conference championship in three years and sixth overall, with the Gophers finishing conference play 9-0. Allen, who was named Landmark Conference Coach of the Year, has led Goucher to two Landmark titles in his first three seasons.
Michael Adenkanmbi, junior, men's soccer (Bowie, Md./Bowie)
Adenkanmbi, in his first season with the men's soccer program, earned United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-Region and Landmark Second Team All-Conference honors. He led the Gophers with seven goals and 10 assists for 24 points as Goucher reached the Landmark semifinals as well as the ECAC semifinals.
Jacob Connell, senior, equestrian (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron)
Connell qualified for IHSA Nationals in Limit Fences as a senior after winning the Zone IV championship in the event. He helped Goucher to its 12th straight IHSA Zone IV, Region I championship.
Gabe Naftoly, sophomore, men's tennis (Newburyport, Mass./Berwick Academy)
Naftoly earned Landmark First Team All-Conference in both singles and doubles for the conference champion Gophers. In singles Naftoly was 7-0 in Landmark action, while in doubles play he finished with a 5-3 record.
Belle St. Jean, senior, women's soccer (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee)
St. Jean was a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-Region and Landmark Second Team All-Conference defender, earning All-Region for the second time and All-Conference for the third time. Belle, who was also an All-ECAC selection, earned the Landmark Senior Scholar-Athlete Award for women's soccer as well.
