OWINGS MILLS, MD — Goucher took a giant step toward
capturing its third IHSA Zone IV Region I title in the past five
years with a first-place finish at today's riding show held on the
campus of the Garrison Forest School.
Goucher's riding program, which won regional titles in 2003 and
2005, earned 47 points today, enough to boost its five-point lead
over Mary Washington in the regional standings to 19 points,
206-187.
Eight different Goucher riders were awarded first place by the
judges at today's show. Brittany Martin (Ocean City,
MD/Worcester Prep) earned top honors in open equtation
over fences and open equitation on the flat, and moved up to second
place in the region's high point rider standings. She also qualfied
to compete at the Region I Championships in March in open
fences.
The other Goucher riders with first-place performances were:
Jonathan Cohen (Chicago, IL/Latin School of
Chicago) in open flat, Boo Geisse (Chagrin Falls,
OH/Chagrin Falls) in intermediate flat, Sarah
Pandolfini (New York, NY/Buxton) in novice flat,
Sarah Ashby (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) in
advanced walk-trot-canter, and Jenna Allen (Round Rock,
TX/Round Rock), Nina Sysko (Lewiston,
ME/Lewiston) and Jonah Bookman (Miami, FL/Oakley
School) in walk-trot.
Allen qualfied for regionals in walk-trot equitation.
