CHATHAM, Va. - By placing 11th in a strong field of 24 teams at today's Tournament of Champions Winter Classic, Goucher's riding program finished in fourth place in the 2007-08 Tournament of Champions series.
Previously Goucher placed seventh at the Preseason Classic and 12th at the Holiday Tournament of Champions.
At the final event of this year's series, Virginia Intermont captured first place, St. Lawrence was second and Mt. Holyoke was third. In the overall series standings, Mt. Holyoke finished in first place with 105 points, followed by Virginia Intermont (85 points) in second, Cornell (66) in third, Goucher (47) in fourth and North Carolina-Charlotte (46) in fifth.
Individually, Brittany Martin (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) was Goucher's top performer today as she earned third place in open equitation over fences. Three Goucher riderswere awarded fifth place: Kelly Usher (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) in novice fences, Valerie Wiseman (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) in advanced walk-trot-canter and Lori Scott (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) in walk-trot. Sarah Pandolfini (New York, NY/Buckston) placed sixth in intermediate flat.
