SEWANEE, Tenn. - Goucher accumulated 168.52 points to place fifth out of the eight riding teams which competed for the team title at the 31st annual National Intercollegiate Riding Championships conducted here this weekend by the American National Riding Commission.

All Three Goucher Riders Finish in Top 10 of Individual Competition

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Goucher accumulated 168.52 points to place fifth out of the eight riding teams which competed for the team title at the 31st annual National Intercollegiate Riding Championships conducted here this weekend by the American National Riding Commission.
All three riders which comprised Goucher's team finished in the top 10 in the individual competition. Brittany Martin (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) placed sixth overall with a score of 84.22 points and Sam Miller (Elmsford, NY/The Harvey School) was seventh with 82.65 points. Julie Fink (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest School) was awarded a score of 81.15 points, good for 10th place among the 33 riders who competed.
Individual riders contended in three phases: a dressage sportif, which is a program ride comprised of hunter seat equitation movements provided by the ANRC, a hunter trials equitation course over rolling terrain over cross country-type jumps, and a hunter seat equitation course in a ring.
The overall individual champion was Whitney Roper from Virginia with a score of 93.37 points.
In the overall team competition, Savannah Art & Design placed first with 180.97 points and Virginia was second with 180.85. Also finishing ahead of Goucher were Sweet Briar in third (170.68 points) and Centenary in fourth (170.1). After Goucher came St. Andrew's Presbyterian in sixth (161.99), Sewanee in seventh (154.13) and Christopher Newport in eighth (150.02).
