LOS ANGELES, Calif. - With her strong performance in today's jumping phase of the competition, Goucher's Brittany Martin (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) moved up nine spots to 12th place in the Cacchione Cup Championship at the IHSA National Horse Show.
Martin earned a score of 80 points in today's fences portion. In yesterday's flat portion, the senior was awarded 74 points, which put her in 21st place in the field of 31 riders from throughout the nation.
With her two-day total of 154 points, Martin finished only four points out of making the top 10. The overall winner in the Cacchione Cup Championship was James Fairclough II from Drew with 176 points.
The Cacchione Cup Championship is a competition open only to those riders who end the season with the most points in the open division in each region. Martin was the high point rider in Zone IV Region I in 2007-08.
Goucher also was represented at the show by senior Sarah Pandolfini (New York, NY/Buckston), who qualified for nationals by placing second in novice equitation on the flat at the Zone IV Championships.
Pandolfini ended up in fourth place in novice flat at nationals. The IHSA champion in that phase of the novice division was Karen Kearney from Wisconsin.
