TOWSON, Md. - Goucher wiped out Mary Washington's five-point lead atop the IHSA Zone IV Region I standings with its performance today at the region's second show of the season.
With Goucher earning 45 points today and Mary Washington coming in second with 40 points, the two teams are now tied for first place in the region with 77 points apiece. Richmond is a distant third with 50 points.
In addition to achieving the high team score, Goucher also produced both the high point rider and reserve high point rider at today's show. Top honors went to Brittany Martin (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep), who placed first in open equitation over fences and second in open equitation on the flat; Nicolette Merle-Smith (Louisa, VA/Foxcroft) was the reserve high point rider and she placed first in intermediate flat and second in intermediate fences.
Sarah Pandolfini (New York, NY/Buckston) offered a first-place performance in novice flat and became the fourth Goucher rider to qualify to compete at the regional championships in April.
There were three other first-place performances by Goucher riders today: Julie Fink (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest School) in open flat, Jonah Bookman (Miami, FL/Oakley School) in beginning walk-trot-canter and Lori Scot (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) in walk-trot. Justine Wilson (Westminster, MD/Westminster) and Emily Shelley (Glyndon, MD) were both awarded second place in novice flat.
