Goucher Riders Hang On to Second Place in Region Standings

SPRINGDALE, Md. – Goucher's Cady Klimas (Miami,
Fl./Palmer Trinity), who was awarded first place in open
equitation over fences and second place in open equitation on the
flat, emerged as the reserve high point rider at today's IHSA Zone
IV Region I riding show co-hosted by George Washington and
American.
Klimas earned 12 points today, upping her total for the season to 32. Mary Washington's Jessica Van Brocklin is the current leader in the region's high point rider standings with 57 points and Goucher's Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) is the runner-up with 46.
Klimas wasn't the only Goucher rider in the open division to distinguish herself at today's show. Julie Fink (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) placed first in open flat and Brandt placed second in open flat.
In the intermediate division, Taylor Marcus (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) took first in fences and Claire McMahon (Kings Point, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was third in flat.
Valerie Wiseman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and Kai Conley (Richmond, Va./Patrick Henry) were awarded second place in novice fences and novice flat, respectively.
Shauntae Robinson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) took first place in walk-trot and, in advanced walk-trot-canter, Alexandra Dupont (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) was second and Effie Bourgin(Savage, Md./Atholton) was third.
Goucher shared second place with George Washington at today's show as both programs scored 33 points. Mary Washington, which enjoyed a 27-point lead over Goucher in the Zone IV Region I standings coming in, picked up 35 points for a season total of 206.
