FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The number of Goucher riders who are
qualified to compete at the IHSA Zone IV Region I Championships
next month grew from four to six today at the first of two IHSA
shows being hosted by Mary Washington this weekend.
The two new qualifiers are Alexandra Dupont (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) in advanced walk-trot-canter equitation and Shauntae Robinson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) in walk-trot equitation. Dupont was awarded first place in advanced walk-trot-canter at today's show and Robinson was given second place in walk-trot.
The addition of Dupont means Goucher will be represented in the advanced walk-trot-canter competition at the regional meet by at least two riders. Valerie Wiseman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) earned her trip to regionals with her performance at an IHSA show back in November.
There were two other first-place performances by Goucher riders today: one by Julie Fink (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) in open equitation on the flat and the other by Sarah Ashby (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) in novice flat. Ashby also was awarded second place in novice fences.
Claire McMahon (Kings Point, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), a regional qualifier in intermediate fences, today placed second in intermediate flat.
After placing either first or second in all five of the IHSA Zone IV Region I shows so far this season, the Goucher riding program finished in fifth place today with 22 points.
